How long has your fuel pump lasted?

Hi just had my td5 pump die on me. No warning or noise just stopped. I went through the receipts of the previous owner and the pump had been replaced in 2011. I have ran out of fuel in the last year that might have killed it. But that is a very short life for a VDO pump I would have thought. It might be 40,000 km

Mine was still going strong at 260Kkm when I changed it over as preventative maintenance to a new VDO one.

Pity I couldn't say the same thing about the transmission!

Are you sure it's the pump, my brother in law thought his pump had gone (30A fuse had blown and it was noisy) but after much scratching around he discovered the wiring between the chassis rail and the pump had rubbed and chafed, nothing wrong with the pump! (Except it was noisy!)

I replaced mine at 179K. Thought it was buggered but was just the earth wire.

    Got a spare though.

Avoid running your car with 1/4 tank. The pump is fuel cooled, not enough fuel and it runs warm and wears out faster.

    Mine went at 105K.
The only thing that ever went wrong with my last D2,it was a great vehicle.

    You may be correct but...

I alway run my tank down to the warning light. No problems now at 215k, still original.
