    keys problam

    I have a friend with 2004 TD5
he has tried open and start the car with his keys and didn't succeed.
he went home and took the second set but still with no success.
the keys lost connection with the car.
let us leave that a side, let say tomorrow I'm off-roading and getting to the same situation, what are my option of starting and driving the car?
Is there any device or mechanism or anything that can override this problem?

Your friend will need to give his VIN number to a Landrover Dealer and have a new set of keys cut.

He may also need to prove that he is the genuine owner. By providing Registration details and identification.

The car has security devices so the vehicle cannot be stolen.

    Cheers

Yes there is. You need your EKA code with you.

If your keys do not work to open the car and disarm, then the EKA code is the long winded way of doing it.

It gets you out of trouble though!

    Had it worked normally?

Where was it parked when he had the problem? Outside a Shop / Servo etc?

Theres a few reasons it could be playing up, need more info.

Shouldnt have anything to do with needing a new key. Unless they no longer turn in the barrel of the ignition.
Only way keys influence the immobilizer is if you use the EKA to turn it off.

If its a key programing issue, which I doubt as they dont just loose there programming. Then anyone with a Nanocom can re-sync the key fob to the immobilizer.

Might be worth checking the condition of the batterys in both fobs. As someone else has reported in the last 6mths. That both there keys stop working at the same time. Both where flat.

The other possibility, and its what happened to me, is that the Receiver has failed.
This is located in the roof near the interior light (mid) and the only way of testing it really is trying a new/similar one.

    A cheap fix though.

As Turps said, nothing to do with the keys. So don't go waste money on getting new keys cut unless they no longer turn in the door or ignition barrels.

My first trade was as a locksmith.

    What is it lately...

Start with simple diagnostic methodology first....
