    Unhappy Oil Cooler

Not a good start to the weekend
Dropped the disco into the mechanics for a simple top hose replace, went for a walk, after a while, phone call from the mechanic. Oil cooler gone, so now have to do a bit of eBay searching for some parts, and save up some peso's to complete the job.
After looking for these parts shown below, should I also be looking for anything else. This is for a TD5 2001 Disco 2
Oil Cooler about $ 670 on ebay
Oil filter pad gasket $ unknown haven't looked yet
Exhaust manifold gasket, (also new studs and nuts) $ not priced yet
    Exhaust turbo gasket
Water pump, might as well do it now for a bit of peace of mind
    Radiator cap

Anything else that I should be looking for? I have a new radiator in it, about 2 weeks ago, when the same mech fitted that, no sign that the oil cooler would let go, I have new coolant hoses also, but might be filled with muck now.

    Cheers
    Dwayne

Dwayne, when he says "gone" what does he mean? Is this the ATF cooler sandwiched between the condenser and the radiator? If it had a leak it would have let you know.

My ATF cooler has almost chafed through at the bottom. It some how cam,e adrift from its mounting and was resting on an oil gallery.

    Just curious to know.

have all the belt driven spinny bits checked out.

all the idlers, the tensioner, if theres anyplay on the power steering pump replace that too.

    Harmonic balancer.

if you've had one cooling system hose replaced, replace them all especially the secret hidden one down under the turbo about level with pot 4

I presume this is the engine oil cooler not gearbox oil cooler. I too would be interested to know how the mechanic determined this needs replacing.

But I started down a similar path Dwayne - water pump, hoses, thermostat, Thermo fan bearing, idler pulley tensioner, intercooler hoses.

Thanks Blknight - I had one small hose left over from the full hose kit and could not work out what it was. Quick search just now for "Td5 secret hose" and have worked out what the next job will be. Learn something new everyday.

Engine oil cooler, oil into water hoses at the top hose, going all through coolant system, went after having all hoses replaced.
Looks like I will be hitting up Roverlord for some more parts to keep her going though

Not done this job myself, but looking at what you will need to removed I would definitely sort the manifold bolt problem and check the manifold itself if warped, and also do the water pump (and don't forget the oil ring gasket between the accessory bracket and the engine block when you do the water pump). My next job was the exhaust manifold so I will also check out the oil cooler at the same time. Like yourself I replaced the top hose before I did the rest, but have since done all hoses when I replaced the water pump - except the secret hose mentioned above.

One thing I will say for the Td5 is everything hanging off it is fairly easy to work on and to get to. But I have yet to tackle the rear heat shield bolt.
