    Good buy or not

    Hi All,

Scouring the pages for a second hand D2a (2.5TD Auto)and have seen an 03MY, I think it's a S model (has coils no ACE) with 227,000km for $14K. Apparently has the service books, is this reasonable on face value and should I enquire further or should I steer clear.

    Thanks

If it's an S model this means it will be a 7 seater and should have SLS, not coils.

If the SLS has been removed, i would keep looking for another vehicle.

Also ask to see all the service reciepts ( ie list of full work done).

SLS is worth waiting for if you intend to do some touring with a loaded vehicle and definitely if you will be towing.

    Cheers

An 'S' model does not mean it will be automatically a 7 seat and SLS. The Specs within specs varied a lot. Check for a pump and diconnected lines and a switch in the panel. Very rare for a coil conversion to remove all that stuff . There will be some evidence left.
apart from that a mechanical history is a must! And be careful of modified 1 with lots of offraod gear, It could have been used hard and abused. ( No slight implied or intended on the forum users that modify and use )

On the east coast you are spoiled for choice. Plenty for sale so I would take my time and to test drive, compare the condition and value, and if you are lucky find a passionate AULRO owner looking to sell who can tell you more about their car than their kids. With the Td5 service history is absolute critical but also find out how it has been used. My Td5 has done 456k now and without a doubt ran better at 200k than when it was new. In my case I put the long life down to mainly being used for long trips and avoiding short stop start trips. I have no experience with the D2 auto but again look to make sure it has had regular oil changes.

But if you have not taken a D2 with ACE for a test drive I would and compare the difference. And if you go slightly older make sure it has the CDL or at least is the version where you can easily reconnect the CDL and factor that into the price.

At around the 200k mark you definitely want to pick one up that looks and drives like new as then you know it has been looked after.

    Hi all,
It looks like I have caused some confusion, i thought it was an S model but its actually the Discovery model (didn't realise initially this is the base model and not the S). So all your assumptions were correct and thank you for pointing it out. So only a 5 seater with coils.
Being a coiled car is it ok for touring for a family or should i persist and look for an SLS equipped one?
    Thanks again

Coils are more than useful for all thsat a disco can be used for, very failsafe and reliable. Having said that SLS is a lot more user adjusable for any given load and if the system has been maintained just as reliable. If you are in no rush to get 1 and are prepared to look around . SLS with ACE is probably the best touring combo you could wish for. Just do the background and history.
