Wishful thinking
My 2002 td5 is blowing more smoke out the rocker cover breather than out the exhaust. The LR dealer thinks it may have been overheated or dusted. It still starts first crank, pulls well and gets 10 km per litre. The reason for this post is to ask if there could be some reason for the blowback, other than a worn engine?

(Bump)
Is it using any oil?
Blowblack is usually a sign of worn rings/damaged bore.
If there is a lot of oil at the breather pipe a Provent may be an option until the oil usage is not acceptable.
