    Everything was going so well...

So fitted my ARB battery tray and flipped the spare wheel carrier on Saturday, went for a drive afterwards and the engine started knocking!!

Ripped the sump off yesterday and started removing the conrod shells. Came across these this morning.

    Bugger...

Can't quite tell from the pic but have those bearings got heat damage on them - i.e. - it's run out of oil, or is it high KM related...?

If lack of oil, did it give you any warning? Either way, not good news...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

They don't appear to be scored despite significant wear. How many kms? And the obvious....oil pump bolt check? If the journals measure up within tolerance and round a new set of shells will see it right. How are the mains?

No heat damage or signs of spinning. Not run out of oil from my time of ownership. 176,000klms. No engine lights or oil lights.

If the journals measure up switching tolerance and round a new set of shells will see it right.

The crank seems ok. Going to throw some new bearings in for the time being till I can rip the motor out after I've moved house!!

Ouch.... Unfortunately I also have experienced that sinking problem but mine was number 3 piston gudgeon pin moved and started digging its way out of the engine block Now I have a new engine with a few bells and whistles and the disco goes like a rocket and very happy with the rebuild.

Update: fitted the new shells and the knocking was still there. With a bit more poking around thought it was the torque converter bolts had come loose but in fact it is the left hand catalyst broken up and rattling in time with the revs changing.
