Stalled and will not start
Hi all
I have a 1996 Disco V8 which i use as a farm truck. Started it up, drove about 100 meters and it died, felt like the engine just stalled, rolled out of the roundabout and pulled over, tried to restart it, would wind over but not kick.
Had a sparky mate come over and we have found the fuel pump and injectors are not activating and doesn’t appear to have spark. Put the OBD2 on and got the message that it could not connect to the ECU. Kinda out of ideas on where to go next, is it the spider issue?
Thanks
Ps its in Carindale Qld will happily pay for it to get started if you can help.

Sounds like no power to some components. Checked the fuses and relays? I may be able to assist as I'm in Carindale as well. Pm your details and let's see if we can resolve the issue.

Everything rotation signal wise on a D1 runs off the simple mechanical advance distributor, so the death of the ignition module will shut down spark, fuel pump and injection. There isn't any point in using OBD2 as the ECU is pretty dumb. Just replace the module after checking that there's power at the coil. If you have an auto parts supply within reach you can get a common Bosch ignition module and fit that instead.
Thread for the Bosch conversion here.

I had the same thing happen to me in the D1 in Tassie one night (about 9 yrs ago now) when we were in holidays😡 and it was that ignition module thingy.

Last year my D2 V8 (2001) stalled out the blue whilst pulling into a driveway, turned over, wouldn't fire up. Got it trailered to a garage. Turned out to be the crank angle sensor. Fitted new one and haven't had an issue in that regards since. Cheers.
