    Disco centrifuge filter housing?

    Hi guys,
I have a question regarding the housing for a centrifuge filter on my disco td5.

I serviced the disco today for the first time and when I went to put the lid back on the centrifuge housing one of the bolts wouldn't screw back in. I have tried a few times and it just won't tighten, It screws in but won't screw tight. I pulled it back out and the was metal around the thread. Not sure what to do. One bolts screws tight and the other doesn't. Should I use a light thread lock?

    Thanks guys,
    Shaun.

The thread is apparently easily stripped. I was told mine had longer bolts added by a previous mech.

I drilled, tapped and heli-coiled mine and they are fine now.

I'd suggest trying longer bolts first but if that doesn't work then Heli-Coil

    Happy Days.

These holes strip out really easily. I drilled out mine and tapped to M8. Both holes are through holes outside the housing. Just make sure you have the cover on when making swarf.

    Thanks guys,
I have done a bit of research and heli coil might be beyond my capabilities I the garage. Do you have to take the entire centrifuge casing out to do this ?
I guess using some type of thread lock would be useless here right?

Heli-Coil is easy as mate. The only problem I had was getting the drill down to the bolt holes. I had to use a drill extension that I picked up cheap at Bunnings.

I bought a kit that came with the right size drill bit, Tap, heli-coils and tool.

Looks like this: (different brand but does the same job)

So you drilled out the holes with the housing still attached to the car?

I was lucky and the longer bolts worked a treat. Not sure if this will be the case next time but I will read up on how to heli coil and be ready next time if I need to go that way.
I managed to get it done thanks to you guys. Thanks heaps.
    Cheers
    Shaun.
