    Dual battery setup query

Hi all. I bought a ark battery pack (blue one) to put in the rear of my D2a to power my Waeco. I was also hoping to wire a Anderson plug down to connect my
Jayco outback camper to charge it on the move as well, and maybe a solar line in a some future point.

I was planing to use the redarc smart start solenoid to charge the auxiliary deep cycle battery inside, but today when I went to my local ARB store, they told me it won't work that way, and instead need to install a redarc 12V charger instead (at a LOT more $$). Otherwise the alternator will not charge the second battery.

Is this true? Anyone else got a similar setup and can comment on it? Thanks.

Bet they will sell you the charger you alt will charge at a much higher rate than the 12 volt charger

Hi brougham, they are having a lend of you, to make a nice profit.

I am supplying DBS kit for all the Land Rover models based on my SC80 isolators and heavy 6B&S twin to the rear, to charge battery packs, many of them are the ArkPak and no one is having any problems charging they battery packs.

Just make sure you connect to the Arkpak via the Anderson plug.

    Hi

I have been using the SC80 with the 6B&S to my 120A Engel (Ark) box without any issues, it gets a lot of use powering my fridge and camper but dutifully charge all 3 of my batteries at least once a month just to keep them good as they dont get much respite keeping the beer cold

i'm planning on permanently mounting the arkpak in the rear. we have LPG (scuba tanks) so this will fit alongside and only just stick up above the false floor. so i was going to hardwire the arkpak to the terminals, then wire the anderson plug for the camper from the arkpak.

this is what i had in mind, is this okay? was only going to locally ground the rear battery, do i need to run it 6m back to the front?

also, do you mount the isolator up the front next to the start battery, or in the rear next to the aux battery?

Hi again brougham, if you use one of my isolators, it can be fitted any where in the system, including at the rear battery.

If you fit any other brand of isolator, it must be fitted as close as practical, to the cranking battery, other wise they can oscillate if the battery at the rear is in a low charged state.

You will also need circuit breakers ( or fuses ) at each battery's positive terminal.

Ive been using a Drivesafe USI160's with my dual battery in an Ark box, and he modified one of his dual battery wiring kits with a few basic changes for the D2 before he sent it down to me.
I'm very happy with the set up, he is easy to deal with and writes loads of helpful stuff on this forum. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with Red Arc but preferred to send my business to a member that is actively helping us out.
