    Broken Hi-Tuff Half Shaft

Out at Janowen on the weekend and one broken half shaft later ..... I even have the moment it broke on video as my partner was driving at the time ..

Anyway .. Supposedly they are Hi-Tuff shafts, but still managed to break one ... Will 100% know once MR Automotive take a look. But the question I have is ... should I put another Hi-Tuff in there or order some of the Ashcrofts ?

What size tyres and what other mods do you have (lockers, gearing, etc...)

    How old is the shaft?

Ashcroft uses 4340. MD/HTE use AMS6418, which is as good or even significantly better - though this depends on heat treating. Ashcroft have a 5 year breakage warranty though.

35's, 4.12s and it had the rear ARB locker engaged when it went bang. Age - Well 3 maybe 4 years ... She was driving up a tractor tyre jump up .. wasn't going too fast but just after she cleared it with the back wheels was when we heard it go bang.

Yeah I have read that the Hi-Tuffs should be better based on material used .. but the Ashcrofts 5 year breakage warranty looks good as well. You can at the moment get the shafts made in 300M from Ashcrofts but that is another 200 pounds.

Since they are quite new I would be seeing what Barry from HTE is willing to do. He may give you a free axle... If noot then I agree Ashcroft's offer is hard to pass up.
