You're not. I pulled the panhard and centred the diff (with tie down straps each way) and it's still off set side to side AND it was the same with the old and new steering boxes.

Well, I collected D2 today from the Landy guy this arvo and am a little wiser as to their steering 'quirks'. I sat in three different Disco 2's that he had there, one of which had had a new steering box and associated bits fitted and, lo and behold, they all performed the same trick.... 2 turns left and 1.5 right. So I wasn't imagining it and it's not just me! His general feedback was that D2's are notorious for having a poor turn circle, as some of this thread has shown. It still defies logic, though. Ah we'll...c'est la vie!

Looking at the owner's manual and it actually states 3.5 turns lock-to-lock, doesn't say what the bias is though, probably something to do with either LHD or RHD, i.e. RHD may have two turns left, 1.5 turns right with it being opposite for LHD vehicle.

I find it strange hearing the comments about D2 poor steering circle.

I'm particularly impressed with mine , both in doing u-turns and in parking.

Winding bush tracks and shopping centre car parks are a breeze as far I am concerned.

I'm pretty sure mine is standard geometry.

I might go out in the dirt and measure it just to see what it actually is.

With standard size tyres, you can change the steering stops to get a better turning circle.

For those that are not aware LR fitted a larger lock stop bolt (29mm) from about 2001 on to account for wider tyres being fitted as an option. They did this even if it was not needed. This lead to complaints and so a Technical Bulletin was issued on this.

So yes it is possible for some D2's to get over 3.5 turns lock to lock and get under 12m turning circle, whilst others with the longer lock stop bolts will get under 3.5 turns lock to lock and a turning circle over 13m.

Has anyone actually got a copy of Land Rover Technical Bulletin L8867bu which refers to the changes needed to improve the turning circle? I know the details around the parts needed, but I want to know if the bulletin makes any reference to any adjustments needed on the steering box?
