Easy way to shoot down your argument. In many markets the TD5 does not have EGR. Yet it still has a MAF.
If EGR was the only purpose, you can guarantee LR would have saved the $$ and left it out.
I am also an Engineer. Mechanical who knows how the engine works and what it requires. Not an avionics tech screwing with inputs and treating the engine like a black box with internals that don't matter.
