    235 / 85 R16 std Disco 2

I seen yesterday a Disco 2 wearing 235 / 85 R16. They appeared to only just fit in the guards. I think there was no lift fitted either.
Does this make sense to others?

Not sure about the std setup, I run them an ARB OME lift (approx 40mm) without any issues...

I ran them on my D2, just upgraded the springs to +2".
Had issues with the shocks bottoming out, so fitted some Terrafirma +2" shocks just before I sold it.

Ran with just the extended springs and OE shocks for nearly 3 years before fitting the shocks.

Said it before, say it again...

A straight out basic spring lift does NOT allow fitting of larger tyres.

It only changes the static ride height.

Range of motion remains the same, so if they rub without a lift, they will with a lift..

And yes, a 235-85-16 will fit a D2 with no problems..

A lift just fools you into thinking it's good. Until you hit full compression.

I 100% agree. Some people however, fit a lift and larger tires then extend the bump stops to prevent the tires running into the guards.

All this to get more diff clearance yet in the process stuff up the suspension dynamics.

I refused to to do this on my RRC instead i cut the guards and fitted a bodylift as well as a suspension lift. This was a large amount of effort though.

I'm considering buying my old man's D2a but want to know what size tires i can fit before venturing down this path.

Here is a guide to tyre size and vehicles and mods required or what you can fit without mods. Tyre Sizes and Mods Required

Don't put 235/85 on if you have any hills where you live. I lasted 6 months with a chipped d2 on 235/85 before I went back to 245/70. A std d2 will be an absolute slug with 32 inch tyres. and your EGTs go through the roof on hills due to the extra load.
