Funny, we ran the D2 from 2001 till 2008 on 265-75-16 without issue..

    Are you auto or manual?

Auto. You live in south Oz Toombie and the only hill in your entire state is behind Adelaide! I live in the great dividing range so any loss of power is really noticeable on the roads around here. 235/85 just made it too sluggish. And yes, there is probably something wrong with it. I have been maintaining it myself for over 5 years now

I run 235 85 16 on my D2 with a remap and it pulls up the hills fine. I just knock it back to 3rd. Before the remap is a different story.

    I have 235/85x16s on my D2.
Its way too overgeared, hill starts when towing the boat are difficult(manual)In low range on the beach with the tuned ECU,brilliant, tall long footprint, dosnt struggle at all.
I fitted the standard ECU the other day chasing a poor starting issue. Its a dead slug on the highway when you are used to just lighting the afterburner to get around road trains!!!!,It was very pleasant when I drove it in the city last week with the standard ECU,much better drivability.
Now the starting issue is sorted I will be replacing the re-mapped ECU to see if that was the starting problem.
