I love HID for dedicated high beam lights but they just don't work in H4, dual beam/single bulb head lights. I wouldn't hesitate to put them in the High Beam part of the D2a headlight.

I realise this, but I have never had an issue with the police or anyone else since I fitted them over 4 years ago. The beam is affected slightly but I have adjusted them probably slightly lower than a standard h4 halogen to account for this. When compared to a mates D2 who has 90/120 halogens mine produce a brighter and clearer beam with only a marginal increase in glare when looking at the front of the vehicle.Quote:

One of mine is like this. The HIDs went in & the headlights did not require adjusting at all. The cut off is identical to the halogen globes that were originally fitted. The colour is whiter (4300 IIRC, def not 6000) & that is the only difference you'll see.Quote:

Not without pulling them out of the car - but i had heard comments about the gas chamber being a different focal length than halogens causing light to go everywhere so I went to see some bona -fide research bit found nothing - lots of testimonials but no scientific research - I measured both bulbs and found the focal length to be the same for H7 globes. Likewise the width of the chamber was the same as the filament width.Quote:

In my view the issue with HIDs is not their actual brilliance in the eyes of oncoming drivers but their perceived brilliance because many are just too white starting into the blue heat range which is obvious.
As I said - I have more issue with out of adjustment halogens than the majority of HIDs.

One possible solution to the variation in focal length between the original globe and the replacement HID is to use shims between the globe flange and the reflector housing. I have used this technique successfully to bring the light source back to the focal point.
Moving the light source forward is another matter.
I have replaced all the halogen globes in all my vehicles that weren't already HID. In the case of the D2a I changed the low beams back to halogen as I don't have SLS. I must say that a combined 600W of HID light did look impressive though.
