    Question EGR valve bolt sizing

    Afternoon all.

I'm chasing a couple of bits of info regarding the EGR valve on the Td5 please folks.

I've stripped two of the threads on the intake manifold side (no doubt due to overtightening and undoing one too many times...).

Does anyone know what size the bolts are and also what type of thread it is on the manifold/bolt?

I'm thinking I'll try a helicoil in the holes that have stripped. Given that I have nothing to measure threads with I can't easily take the bolt into a shop that can size it up for me, I thought I'd ask your helpful selves.

I have the EGR blanking kit all ready to install but was stymied in my best efforts to remove it a while back as I sheared off one of the heads on the exhaust manifold side. That is now held on with one rusty bolt, a crumbling gasket and a stainless band clamp...it was not a happy day in the shed. The photo shows that I was careful to pick the easier of the two bolts that secure the pipe to the exhaust manifold. That bottom one is going to be huge fun. I bought a right angle drill adapter to try out.

    I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Your post says intake manifold side but your picture is of the exhaust manifold side?

I am fairly sure the exhaust manifold two are M6, not sure of the pitch though.

Microcat will often tell you in the items description.

Well spotted. I was in a rush and didn't make it 100% clear. Yes, the photo is of the sheared bolthead on the exhaust side but the query relates more to the bolts on the intake side.

Two of the four on the intake side are stripped/almost stripped. The exhaust side is another drama altogether.

Thanks for the tip re Microcat. Will check it now.

Wouldn't you just take out the two good bolts and measure the thread one of them...?

That wasn't an option available to me last week.

I'll post back what the thread type is for future reference.
