    Question Oil mix question

going to change the fluids in both transfer case and diffs on my 01 disco td5 and find that I have only a 4L container of Nulon 80W/90 gearbox & diff oil (assume its mineral oil...as nothing to state otherwise) ..but I also have a 4L container of Nulon semi-synthetic 75W/90 manual gearbox and transaxle oil. just wondering if I can safely mix the two???

Assuming they're both full containers, why would you need to mix them at all? Put one type in the diffs, put the other type in the transfer case....

I'd probably put the semi synthetic in the transfer case myself, rover diffs are pretty old and simple technology, and gear noises etc are more audible from the transfer case.

As noted, put the GL-5 oil into the diffs (don't put a GL-4 oil into the diffs). The transfer box can take a GL-4 or GL-5 but the additives in a GL-5 diff oil are not good for the synchros in a manual gearbox. Definitely don't mix with the diffs but could potentially mix for the transfer box.

That being the case, no problems here. Semi synthetic is a blend with mineral oil already, so blending further is not a problem other than diluting the synthetic portion but as already noted no need to mix anyway.
