Question Is my radio meant to operate without a key

Good evening, this is my first post, so please be patient. Recently picked up a 2001 td5 auto and sorting out all the bits and pieces. I seem to have the battery going flat after a week and a half issue. So I went looking around and I have noticed my radio will be able to be turned on without a key. If it's on with the ignition on it will go off, and come back on when the car is turned on again. But you can definalty turn it on with out a key. Is this possible ? Can it be programmed. I also pulled fuses 16 and 17 and it still goes as does the clock. It's an original radio as well .
    Any help appreciated
    Cheers

    Welcome Joseph!
Mines a 99 model and you can't turn it on without the ignition on so I think something may have been done by the previous owner. Not sure about the programming either. I wouldn't have thought that could be done in a D2.

    Mines like yours.
Only took me 2 years to discover. Jump in with no key in the ignition, hit the radio button, and the radio fires up. I have no idea if this is standard or not, but its good for listening to the footy while youre waiting for the missus to finish shopping.

Mine 200 ES will turn radio on without key, but you may find that after a certain time elapse it will turn off to save the battery. I discovered this whilst sitting in said vehicle bored waiting for some one and it turns off automatically. My Radio also doesn't require a code to reset after the battery is disconnected.

I have a 2003 update model and the user manual says (in my words) that if the ignition is off and the radio ON button is pressed the radio/cd/tape will play for 20 minutes then turn off automatically. This is a security feature so that you can leave the missus in the car with the radio going and not have to leave the keys in the ignition for someone to carjack your vehicle.

Well I just had to double check my radio after these comments lol and no it doesn't turn on. I probably should have mentioned I have an aftermarket (Alpine) radio so maybe this has something to do with it.

Mines a 2004 with the Visteon radio/cd. Without the key being in the ignition, push the on button, and the radio display says 1hr ... Plays for 1hr and then turns off .... Good for not running the battery flat when camping.

The horn also works with ignition off (and doors locked)

My neighbours and I found out the other morning at 4am when the steering wheel horn button wedged in and stuck.

Since then removed the horn fuse which also supplies the cruise control system.

    Regards
