depends, ive got here an exide battery from kmart. lasted 3 years so far, with multiple discharges. it should be dead but it's not.

    K-Mart sell Exide!
The K-Mart near me only stocks Masse. It would appear others have had similar experiences to me.

The Exides I usually use ( the last one I bought from Repco) last 7-10 years. They are a good battery and you pay for them. I've only seen the much lower priced items in K-Mart.
I've had my Commodore since '94. I've always had Exides in it. I just put my 3rd battery in it. A Century this time (they were on special).

    alternator volts.

Bad earth! good point I got caught out by this. alternator seemed to be charging OK, voltage seemed OK but battery gradually discharged over time when driving.Eventually into limp home mode.
found it was the earth connection to the engine on the right hand front side under the wiring harness. need to remove acoustic cover for a start and move harness aside.
The contact was loose and dirty. It obviously was carrying volts but not the right current to keep the battery charged.

    Trev.
