    Performance tweaks

So I took the disco (td5) into Graeme Cooper (Sydney) for some regular servicing and was also considering another remap of the ECU. So they put it on a dyno and got 63kw at the wheels, the remap they offer is moderate and typically comes in at 70kw so I thought I the $800 they charge would not be worth the increase. I've opted for the highflow cat instead. I'm just wondering whether I should also do the turbo hoses, do silicon hoses really do make a difference?

    Cheers,
    Randy

People change to silicon because the rubber hoses break down due to oil contamination, the inside of the hose peels away, blocking the hose, restricting air to the intercooler.
It's not a performance mod unless your rubber hoses are already partially blocked.

These guys also do an ECU upgrade ... it's done on a swap over basis.

Thanks yeah I spoke to the guys at GC and they said the same thing about the hoses. GC actually uses TRS, they send the ECU for the mapping and it gets sent back. I'd previously had a moderate map put by someone here, I'd forgotten who so I was interested whether the GC map would be much better. I'm balancing out longevity of the engine so will stick with what I have

You are better off using a proper tuner like TD5 Inside for your tunes. He will provide you with a generic tune to start with and then update it to suit your vehicle based on data recorded with Nanocom or further modifications (like VNT or intercooler). The best bit is that you don't get hit for the full tune costs again!

Yes thanks I was thinking that, I will look at td5 inside for some more options

I used Jose at td5 inside, very good sent me a new ecu NNN type then a modified map and doesn't charge for any changes needed if you want more power.

+1 for Jose at TD5 Inside.

I went back and forth with him a fair bit to get my tune just how I wanted it. I can't remember how many tunes he sent me now. I think it was 3 or 4 as he made adjustments from my feedback. I remember the first one was a bit thirsty so I got him to dial it back a bit.

    Happy Days.

I can also highly recommend td5inside. I now have stage 2 remap and boost box fitted. I've also put egt and boost meter to keep an eye on things. Main muffler and egr already deleted which also made a big difference to turbo lag.

One word of warning though, Jose is pretty good at replying to emails, but the response is always very brief. Both the remapped ecu and boost box arrived in bubble wrap. No instructions. So to a large extent I relied on this forum and other google searches to get enough info to set up the boost box, and configure the ecu via nanocom.

The result is very good! Vehicle now has very strong midrange torque, no smoke, and equal or better economy.

For reference, moderate (short shifting @ 4000) 0-100km/h times went from 18.5s to 13.6s!

Happy to help anyone who chooses to go down this path.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

Thanks Scott. Great to see some performance figures.

How long does your D2 now take to get from 60-100 or 80-120 when held in 4th gear (or locked in 3rd if you have an auto?).

I find the performance in this speed range (when dropping back a gear from top gear) gives a real good indication of how relaxed the driving is when overtaking.

Thanks for all the feed back, I've touched based with td5inside and TRS and while I don't doubt both would give me even better performance I'm going to save the money and hold off. I picked up my d2 today with the new highflow cat and drivability has certainly improved so for now I'm happy.
