2" lift, panhard rod and drag link

    Fellas,

    Tried searching but no yield.

    Vehicle is 1999 Disco 2.

Threw in a 2" suspension lift a while back (King Springs), fitted some new muddies about 10,000km ago and am begining to see odd tyre wear. Thinking of fitting an adjustable panhard rod to realign the front end.

    Questions :

    1. Terra Firma part TF254 is listed as being for 50mm plus lifts. The King Springs have resulted in a genuine 2" lift. Anyone used this part and have any feedback on suitability?

    2. Is there enough adjustment in the factory drag link to match the longer panhard rod?

    Thanks,
    ballbag.

I'd get a wheel allignment and balance first and have your front end checked, new radius and trailing arm bushes replaced/looked at.

I had a 4" lift in mine and never had the panard rod or drag link?? done, no odd wear issues with mine, that's the best part of the D2, no need to do anything to the car with a 2" lift.

    Just do the panard rod.

BTW, this is about 10 posts down

Not needed on a 2" lift, Not used on a 4" lifted D2 for 80,000km+

Check alignment, toe, camber, caster etc...

And there is no chance in hell I would recommend Firm Dirt products in any suspension..

So that's a no vote for TF? It's just a rod, was looking to confirm its a suitable length, quality is a separate matter. And also looking to confirm the drag link has enough adjustment in it to match.

Balance is good, alignment known to be good 10,000km ago but possibly moved since.

To clarify, tyre wear is not uneven as such, rather there is more wear than I expected.

Sure, lifted cars will still drive ok but I can't see how front geometry can be correct without proper axle location. Happy to be corrected.

Steering arm/drag link will be fine, panard is up to you, if you feel it needs it, then go ahead.

My tyre wear was about 50,000ks from muddies, ATs 55 to 60,000ks in my D2.

    My D2 specs

    4" lift, lovell springs
    Bilstein 10" travel shocks
    bullbar and winch
    rear bar
    32" muddies 235/85/16
    rock sliders
    HID spotties
    UHF & Antenna
    dual batteries
    upgraded intercooler
    NNN ECU upgrade
    TD5 Alive remap
    TD5 Alive boost box
    boost increase to 21psi
    silicon hoses
    roof rack and awning
    Hilift jack
    pole carrier
    Storage drawers
    Fridge and slide
    Long Range tank.

With all this gear, 45 to 50,000ks was good I thought, depending on the brand, the KM2s were the best, I think they were at 52 odd thousand when I replaced them with another set of KM2s, we were going away, so I figured a new set would be a good idea as we were going to be doing about 10,000ks for the trip.

    What Ks are you getting??

I would just get a wheel alignment done. I've been running 4" for as long as I can remember and never had any unusual wear, including a set of evenly worn Goodyear MTRs that must have been 100,000km before I turned them over.

I hated mine with a 50mm lift...6 months 2 types of tyres and several alignments and I had enough. ..in went castor correction bushes and I love driving it on the highway again.

    Every truck is different.

Funny you should say that, just before I sold mine, I took the 4" lift out and replaced it with a set of 2" lift coils, drove like a shopping trolley and I hated it, oh well it's gone now, still miss the ol' girlstill have my 4" lift coils at home, must get around to selling them one day.

Baz, only 10k on the current tyres so no real lifespan estimate yet.

Thanks for the responses. I'll chuck the adjustable panhard in, get an alignment and report back in the next week or two. See how it pans out......

Thing is every d2 is different spec from the factory. Mine was twitchy on the highway when the lift changed the castor angles. It desperately needed taking back to stock castor. I now have better corner handling too and feel is good. The next car will feel better than stock without correction because from factory it was different spec...they could be 3 degrees or so different from truck to truck.

    Cheers
