    fan belt

Doing my head in,The fan belt is sqeeling its head off,In the last 4 months I have replaced the power steering pump[genuine]water pump[ genuine] pas pump[used but good]all bearings in the idlers, fan belt tensioner, alternator seems quite and spins freely[left battery on charge for a week to make sure there was minimum load on alternator, put stick to ear no noises.
Aircon compressor makes no difference whether it is engaged or not, harmonic balancer seems okay rubber looks as new,Is there any marks to line up between inner and outer sections of the balancer???.
I have even had a socket on the tensioner when the engine is running and pulled it tighter no difference,I have had 2 new belts on it. If I put the old belt on it stops squeeling,I have poured water on the belt that stops the squeeling for all of 10 seconds.all belts are the same brand Dayco 7PK2703.
Tomorrow I am going to cut a rib off off a belt to see if that makes a difference perhaps a pully is running slightly off. Any other suggestions welcome.

Had a similar problem, mine was solved by fitting a new genuine idler / tensioner and Conitech belt. The Conitech belt has serrations / pattern on the "smooth" side to provide extra grip.

Maybe check your fan bearing, the one seated in the engine front cover. I take it you would have removed the fan when you put the tension on the idler, but this bearing would still be spinning. (Doesn't explain why your old belt is quiet though.)

2703mm means you also have ACE, have you checked your ACE pump pulley is in alignment and pulley hasn't moved on the pump shaft. You meantioned everything else, but not the ACE pulley.
The old belt might be sufficiently worn in a sweet spot hence no noise.
Old Mechanics trick get a small smear of grease on finger and give the belt a wipe.

wasa it is a v8,no idler in the cover,But i have replaced all the bearings in the idlers.Do you happen to have a number for the contitech belt.
It has a new[used ace pump]on it i replaced that because it was noisy and felt a little stiff to turn. The new belt was squeeling before replacment.

yes the new belts have a shiny top that looks slippery,Might try some anti slip on the shiney side, tried it on the other and made no differance.Didn't occur to me the belt may be slipping on the idler as there is low resistance there.

Does it happen at idle or only under load ie- vehicle in motion?

All pulley surfaces are getting polished with age..ditch the shiny Dayco style and change to a Contitech / Quinton Hazel (same belt ) and enjoy the silence ..best thing we ever did on our two Td5's .
