Hello there, im new to this forum, and I've been searching wide and far for some good information on putting a 2" lift and some new tyres on my discovery 2. its the 99 td5 version, with No airbag suspension.
The questions I have are:
1. What is the ironman suspension like? I can get it fitted (springs and shocks) from a mob in Melbourne for $1000 and that comes in at the cheapest I have been quoted so far. that included installation and a wheel alignment. Are there any other brands that are worth considering for a price similar to that? note: im not after heavy duty ones as I don't have a bulbar/winch/extra tanks and don't plan on carrying heavy loads.
2. Tyre size.. Without a lift, what is the largest tyre size I can use which will not rub on the guards when offroad? currently I have 235 70 r16's on there.
With a 2" lift, what is the largest I can go without rubbing etc?
someone told me today I could put 245 75 r16's and would only require a bit of trimming of the guards?? not too keen on trimming anything. can anyone enlighten me on what trimming would be involved?
Any info or links to similar threads would be appreciated. Thanks

Gday mate,
I've got a 2" lift and no guards trimmed, I fit 235/85R16 under there no worries without trimming anything which is about an extra inch over 245/75R16.
265/75R16 will also fit and look quite good on the D2

Hi craaazyAL, i've just fitted a 2" lift 3 weeks ago,i went king springs and terrafirma shocks all up around $600,i imported the shocks my self and fitted the lift my self,easy job took around 4hrs,i run 245/75/16 no problems at all you don't need to cut the guards.
Iron man are a little on the harsh side.
Avoid TF gear like the Ebola- Cheap arse Chinese manufactured ****...
Poor valving, too soft on rebound, too stiff on compression.

I had the adjustable ones on my RRC with a 35mm lift. I also had the RTC steering damper.
They were very good. I put the standard rate springs in the back which was a poor decision as I ended up with a steel rear bar with a tire carrier and a roof top tent. To compensate I turned the shockers up harder. This worked for a while but it chewed out the rubber in the shock eyes. On a D2 i'm pretty sure they have pins not eyes, so the rubbers may have lasted longer. However my suggestion would be to get the correct rate springs.
I'm considering buying them again for the D2. But I want to try dual rate springs and I don't think Tough Dog do them.

SupporterMine is bog stock except for bullbar which has sagged the front have 245/75/16. Didn't scrub when I went out the other week. I have terrafirma +2 yes they are a bit on the harsh side wife hasent complained but I have only done 1000 klms with it all fitted
Thanks everyone for all your help. Ive decided to go with the 245 75 r16's and no lift for the moment. Now just to find a cool tyre. Im mostly sold on the BFG T/A KO's but the slipping in the wet comments are making me think otherwise. Hoping the KO2's arrive in Australia soon as I've read they are even better

I have bf Goodrich LT all terrains in 245/70. They don't slip in the wet more than any other tyre I've tried. I actually find them really good.
