    2003 TD5 Discovery running problem

    Hi,

Im having a issue with my 2003 TD5 discovery. To put it simply the vehicle refuses to rev above 3000rpm. It doesnt matter how hard you push the peddle it just sits there and what feels like mis-firing.
    I have checked the following:
I have checked that the wastegate is free and is working (using a hawkeye)
the turbo wastegate modulator is working (tried a test and tried another unit) and checked the pipes
The airflow meter is recording figures
the throttle pot is working (using diagnostic)
new fuel filter has been fitted.
air filter is ok and intake pipes are clear
the looms are free of oil
cleaned the base of the fuel pump of dirt in the tank

Can anyone think of anything that will cause the problem? It drives very well otherwise.

    Many thanks,
    Hugh

Have you cleaned the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold?

Check that the fuel pump is actually pumping.
Engine will run up to 3000rpm with the pump not working, but no more.

    Hi mate,

I can hear the pump and its not excessively noisy. Is there any way to measure the pressure without a gauge?

Yes they sure do especially if the EGR is still connected. If never cleaned they can read no boost,so cut fuel accordingly.

Ive got exactly the same issue just started today!
ok on the flat at 110km/hr but runs out of steam up hills
    starts surging/pulsing
it then drops down into 3rd until road levels out then back up into 4 th and lock up
passing - don't bother! just sits there and surges/pulses

Will look/ clean at MAP first and then MAF
hopefully not the fuel pump …but i reckon it might be!
pump still making normal noises pre starting

let me know what you find

    cheers

Not sure, I suppose you could loosen a fitting at the filter and see if fuel sprays out.

Here's my story, I was surprised how far you can go without a fuel pump

That sounds exactly like the boost modulator mate
