Do you have a leak on passenger side on top of firewall? Mine had rust which caused water to leak to the fan area.

No one has brought this for a while so thought I'd let you know what I found.
It was mentioned somewhere (can't find it now) where they said the bearings can't be replaced or seal removed for lubrication.
Far as I can see they are the same as the X-Trail heater fan I fixed last time. It's a ball shaped bush with the shaft hole through the middle. In the X-Trail you can pull the tags back, pull out the bush and put a real sealed ball bearing in. Fixed for ever, but the Bosch motor in mine is not as easy to fix as the bushing/balls are mounted from the inside.
Mine also shows signs of moisture and the brushes look pretty short so it looks like time to look a new one soon. For now I have just cleaned it up, blown out all the crud and lubing the bushes with PTFE spray. Lubing the bushes made a HUGE difference, the shaft now can move and the end float is easily felt.
Crossed fingers it works for a while...

Not sure about the leak but found the rubber grommet about the passenger side windscreen heater wire fallen in. Fixed now. Where is the firewall leak??
I was thinking it is just moisture from the air or air con as the Disco lived in Geelong and Tasmania before I got it.

All Cleaned, Lubed and re-installed.

I have checked for any rust or leaks in the firewall but it all looks fine.
I am wondering as there is 99 stamped on the housing (mine is 2001) if it has been changed in the past from a wreck that might have leaked in the yard due to crash damage???
Inside the heater box itself was a little dusty but that's it.

Nope it's an easy job.
Just remove the cardboard kick plate under the glovebox. 3 Pop out plugs and 1 Screw out plug.
You can see the fan on the bottom of the heater box.
Pull the blue plug, remembering the lock tab on the plug.
Three 8mm screws hold it in, I noticed it's easier if you remove the wiring loom screw next to the fan.
Undo the three screws and carefully move the wiring looms and lower the fan unit. All up about 20 mins.
Just reverse to refit.
