automatic lockup sometimes failes to relates
I have a D2 TD5 2001 with auto transmission with 150K on the clock,
I have suddenly noticed that the transmission lock up occasionally does not release.
As I understand the system, when you take the throttle off, the engine appears to disengage the transmission and the revs drop to idle.
I have now notices that very occasionally, the this disengagement does not happen typically about 20km/h.
If I then accelerate for a second or two and then release the accelerator, the transmission disengages as normal.
I cannot find a set of conditions where I can reproduce the apparent problem.
Can anyone help?
Is this normal?
Is it a sign of bad things to come
Is it related to a recent towing episode where I towed 3 ton for about 100k.
What should I do?
Regards

Has the auto been serviced? I suggest you have a look at the colour of the fuid, if it's black or looks dirty, change it. Autos in D2's do run hot and it's not that uncommon to find discoloured fluid. If you can't do it yourself, it'll be good insurance to get it done by someone who knows and understands ZF transmissions.
IMHO it WILL NOT be related to towing 3t over a short distance like 100km, the drive train is rated to tow that weight anyway (braked).
