Front / clutch of aircon fell off. D2a TD5.
Has anyone else had the clutch plate / clutch pressure plate with spline fall off the front on the compressor and find it on their strut tower?
Mine has come off and I've simply bolted it back in, this time I used Loctite on the thread. I'm not entirely sure if there was meant to be anything between this plate and the plate on the compressor.
If anyone could share any helpful info that would be appreciated.
ALSO - Is the 'eccon' button on the aircon control meant to turn the compressor off?

Firstly, YES, the 'econ' button turns the compressor off. This means you can have heat in the winter without running the aircon
I've never heard of the clutch doing a flyer though.

This thread of mine has everything that you need to know about it - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...-pulley-2.html
Personally, I would get a replacement second hand compressor. It's only about $20.00 more than the clutch rebuild kit, and will mean that your system needs to be degassed and regassed, but much easier to fit.
Rebuilding the clutch with the compressor in place on the engine is a pain and I broke the nose of my shaft in the process. The better way would be to remove the compressor for the vehicle - which means gas and regas as above.
If you do decide that you want to rebuild yours, PM me, as I have a rebuild kit on my shelf here - would save purchasing and waiting shipping from USA...
