    Radio Antenna

    HI all,

Got a question for anyone, does anyone know if you can get a replacement radio antenna?

My car has had the drivers rear quarter glass replaced and there is no antenna on the glass, it is also not tinted like the rest of the car.

I had an idea to just get a replacement genuine glass from a wrecker with the antenna and tint but wasn't sure about removing and refitting the glass.

    Any ideas would help.

    Thanks

I can't help you with an original radio aerial to fit to the window, but I enhanced my existing aerial with a magnetic through the glass aerial which I connected to the stud on the window. Given you don't have the window and hence the stud, you should still be able to connect the aerial cable to the amplifier behind the trim above the window. The aerial pad sticks to the outside of the window and there's a mating pad to be stuck the inside. The aerial screws onto a swivel connection on the pad so you can remove it if going off road through close vegetation.

An alternative if you can't locate a stick on aerial.

I found the window antenna to be pretty useless unless you are near a city, and I seldom am.
I made up a s/s bracket or you can buy one for about $50.00 and mounted it on my nudge bar on the front of the ca. I use a s/s whip which you hardly see after a week of use. Works much better than the glass window job.

    Thank you

    Thanks Mundy and Worane.

The idea of getting the original radio antenna working again was that it doesn't stick out and catch on anything.

I have used a Uniden AM/FM antenna on my old Hilux as the electric on would catch on every tree & bush when out driving. With an ARB Sahara Bullbar fitted I don't have much of an option mounting one to the bar.

I gather no one has had experience replacing the rear quart window themselves?

    Again thanks

I watched the Windscreens O'Brien bloke replace mine when the owner of a caravan park broke it with a whipper snipper throwing stones.
    It is really simple.
Mine was in a zillion bits but to cut one out you would get one of those piano wire cutters and run around it.
To fit the new one just clean the body and prime the area and place a bead of Sikaflex ( I think 227) around it. Press it in, and leave it for four to eight hours. I couldn't see the number of what the windscreens Obrien bloke was using but it looked and smelled like 227.
Oh the antenna wire just presses onto a press stud at the bottom /top ? of the glass.
    Regards Philip A
Luckily the caravan park owner was honest and ethical and paid the $485 for a new window.

Its not the aerial, its the crap radio. I changed mine for an after market unit and the reception was great, with city station reception well out of the city and even better with the additional aerial.

Agree. My Pioneer is better than the OEM in my Jazz. However I like AM and the interference is getting worse. I believe that home solar panels are a big source and LED traffic lights are terrible. Before the home solar crew get incensed my reading supports this , as apparently the installer should twist the wires to the inverter and also many inverters are bad.
I cannot even complain to the broadcast authority as they require several neighbours to also complain, and I have the problem on AM car radio. At one place about 300 metres from my house the whole signal is obliterated by a very loud hum .
So if you are thinking of AM it is the radio , the antenna, but also the environment that is degrading AM.

In gonna go with this bad boy. After tinting the windows, the reception is rubbish!
This will go on the roof where the OEM satnav antenna mounts.

Of course it is as most dark tints have aluminium in them.

I would suggest a RH Guard antenna mount, as the stinger on the roof of the Disco will probably not allow entry to most carparks.

Nah. I'm happy with the stinger. After 2" lift and 265s it doesn't fit in many car parks anyway.
