Thread: 2 inch lift, dobinson springs, raw nitro max?

    2 inch lift, dobinson springs, raw nitro max?

    Thinking about a 2 inch lift, Dobinsons springs, Raw Nitro max shocks. Done some homework, can't find anything negative about this mix. Also, with a 2 inch lift, do you have to extend the brake lines, etc. & does the lift put stress on a normal as fitted drive shaft, front & rear.     I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

    The springs aren't going to determine whether you'll need to extend your brake and abs line, its the opening length of the shocks. Also you may need to consider dropping the front cross member down with blocks or a kit.

    Do you know the closed/open lengths of the shocks?

    Had a chat to the gentleman concerned, armed myself with as much info as I could, impressed with him, & his attitude. So, to that end, I will be fitting Dobinson + 50 springs, & Raw nitro max + 50 shocks. Impressed when he asked me what I was fitting to the vehicle, all up , so he could work out the correct spring rates, or something. I nodded my head, & tried to look smart. Bob

    My new purchase has the 2 inch Dobinson springs and Nitro shocks fitted and frankly, I am not happy. I am certain off-road they will be butt kickers but, I don;t like them on road. The climb up is just that little bit more awkward and the climb down leaves me more prone to getting my shorts ripped on the door catch. I can live with that, though.

    What worries me is what will happen when I fit the 49kg steel roof rack I need to be able to go camping? With 5 kids, wife and me there is little room inboard, so the roof rack must handle bulky items like tent, chairs, the table and so on. We will have a fair amount of weight up high, even keeping it to a minimum. How will this effect the cornering?

    I would happily let someone who wants the kit to take it off so long as they replace it with decent standard shocks and springs; but let me try it off road first, just in case it is too good to lose! I will have to check the metal arm bit thingy things have been adjusted for the 2 inch lift. Saw that on YouTube...

    Can someone please explain what dropping the front cross member 15mm does apart from take 15mm away from your lift? i'm sure there is a good reason for it but can't work out what it is.

    It stops the front prop/driveshaft hitting it when the front axle is at full droop.

    It leans in the turns as one would expect, more so than I remember my standard height Hardtop leaning. Perhaps it is my ignorance but as I didn't do the job (or have it done) it might be merely insecurity on my part. I am sure it was done professionally given the previous owners, but the first owner has done some weird things using household electric switches next to the handbrake and in the rear. Just looks weird, that's all.

    It might be because my mechanical/electrical skills are very basic that I prefer to leave well enough alone, or pay for a professional job and when I inherit other people's bodgies i lack confidence.
