    Arrow Paddock Spares PM023 Heavy Duty Steering Rods

    Just popping this up as a reference for anyone else in the future (and myself when next I need it), the part number for a replacement ball joint boot to suit the Paddock Spares PM023 Heavy Duty Steering Rods < PM023 | Heavy Duty Steering Rods for Discovery 2 - with 4 ball joints > are KOK TE3 16 / 34 mm boots:

    Available at Repco Auto Parts. The sizing and fit is pretty much perfect and seems to be a higher quality rubber than the originals.

    I had to replace one today as the rubber boot had ripped.

    And for replacement end pieces the part numbers are:

    The parts you'll need are;
    - PM1029 x 2
    - QFS000010 x 2
    The QFS000010 is a Land Rover part so higher quality replacements are available (genuine and OEM), but the PM1029 seems to be a Paddock Spares only part number < http://www.paddockspares.com/ball-joint-rh-thread.html > so only available in pattern no mention of brand/manufacturer.

    Of note is that PM1029 is the RH thread and QFS000010 is the LH thread type.

    There was some play in one of the tie rod end ball joints so I ordered a replacement. It was RH thread one so I ordered the PM1029 which is only available from Paddock Spares. This arrived:

    As you can see from the above pictures it is different from the original. This is good as I found the originals to be of poor quality. Whilst I've never heard of Atek brand, it immediately seems and feels better built than the old one.

    Relevant numbers on the new unit:
    15I15R on the back
    144 2961 01 and TR-2961RH on the box

    This surprises me as the OE ones are generally Lemforder (ZF) and last pretty well, at least until a boot splits and they let water and crap in.

    By originals I refer to the Paddock Spares PM023 Heavy Duty Steering Rods original tie rod ends (which this thread is about) which were no-name brand fitted when supplied from Paddock Spares, not the genuine Land Rover items. These are an aftermarket part. Land Rover don't make a RH thread unit which would suit only a LH for the other side.
