    D2 V8 Coolant Going Missing

I am after some ideas on what else to look for as to were the coolant is going in the D2.

It has always used a little bit of coolant, however seems to be going through even more now after some work.

I recently had the following repalced as they were all cracked and or leaking:
    • Radiator
    • Thermostat
    • All coolant hoses
The system now runs in a circuit with coolant returning to the resevior tank as designed (this has not been the case previously) and there are no visible leaks that I can now see, however it is still going through excessive coolant.

I have unfortunately, been thinking the same thing.

It still drives fine, so I guess time will tell...

I will get around to stripping the engine down one day.

Is the throttle body preheater leaking?
If its not, may still be a good idea to bypass it.

After its hot do you smell coolant around the engine? If so there is an external leak somewhere, it might be a seep. Sometimes hard to see, but the ends of the heads can weep, the coolant drys before it actually drips down further.

    try the simple things first,,
tape an empty coke bottle to the catch tank overflow line,
get underneath with a torch and look for stains/wetness especially between engine and gearbox,

    Coolant Loss

Some time ago I had a persistent minor loss of coolant. Eventually tracked it down to a partial fracture of the return line spigot close to the reservoir.
Replaced reservoir and no longer suffer from coolant loss.

The little hose that runs from the top of the Rad to the expansion tank can weep where it joins the radiator but is hidden by the plastic cowling.

    Worth a look.

    Cheers, Jerry
