D2 Diff and Trans Box Gear Oil alternatives

    HI,

My D2 has done 290Km and much of it towing a caravan. Recently either my rear diff or transfer box (can't pinpoint which) has developed a whirring sound at around 85km. Changed the fluids (75W/90) last week and its slightly better. Is anyone using 85W/140 in their diffs and trans box. Reading the Gulf Western spec for this oil it seems to tick all the boxes for the type of work my D2 has done...

I posted the same a couple of months ago . Some responses recommended50/50 mix of 80/90 and 85/140. 85/140 makes the transfer very hard to change when cold so I mixed and now better but still hard. Ok when warm. Rear diff has 85/140 no problems and clean oil after 17 Kk towing.

Had the same problem some time ago, i went for the recommended 75W90 oil in the diffs but added this one FriktionTek? Ceramic Manual Transmission, Gear and Differential Treatment: The Best Oil Additive

it might be a placebo for my brain but it seems to me that it really has effect, bought it from amazon at that time and IMO worths every penny of it but there are many such kind of treatments/additives on the market and worth a try rather than go for thicker oil

Haaa! I used Moly in my Borg Warner . When I opened up the output shaft housing to inspect the output shaft, there was the Moly, attached to the inside of the housing by centrifugal force. The shaft was nearly completely stripped at 200 Kk.

I've had some not too good experience with Moly products too, they use a MoS2 based technology whics became obsolete IMO

Has anyone tried Redline Shockproof transmission oil?
I've got a (massively expensive) 4 litres of lightweight in the shed, which I bought for my sports car, before discovering that it's not suitable for the Quaife ATB diff that I've got in there.
It comes in Heavy, Light and now Superlight.

    Any experiences out there?
