    TD5 ecm remap/chip

Hi guys, I'm sure there are dozens of threads out there on the topic of ecm remapping or performance chips but for the life of me I can't find them, that or my phone is having a spaz out when I try searching for them. I'm looking into options to get some more oomph out of my 99 disco td5. I'm running slightly larger than standard tyres and tow a camp trailer. I've heard that the eBay plug in boxes are best to steer clear of but do any of you have some suggestions of good reliable brands/companies out there that I could get one from. I can get my ecm remapped at davis in Sydney but I kinda liked the idea of a box I can adjust myself or remove if desired. Something that could be transferred from the disco into another vehicle once she dies could even be good to save a few bucks down the track. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

one option would get your ecu done as after you install it you won't want to go back ,another would be to buy a nnn (02 on) type ecu ,then with nanocom ( if you have one ) you can load different files , this is slightly more involved , there is plenty of info on here about that.
but if as you say the landy dies (perish the thought :-) you can still sell or swap ecu to another one , just be aware of difference between auto /manual ecu
    Cheers

I found searching on this forum difficult as well until someone told me to scroll to the bottom and use the google search this forum bit. Works a treat everytime. As far as I can tell from the little research I've also done. Nnn type ecu and a nanocom is the most common option. TD5 inside is one of the most common used company fir retuning. They need to know what mods you have and what you are trying to achieve from your engine. You them copy your engine map somehow using nanocom. You email it to them and they will email you back a remap. If you need a fine tune after that its free. I think it is about $400 for the remap and approx. $500 for a nanocom. You will have the added cost of the nnn ecu and other sensors if required. This is just one example though.

Yeah that sounds a little more involved than I think I'm willing to go plus more pricey considering I can take it to Davis and get it done for $800. Just thought there might be an easy plug in option out there that I can reuse when the landy is no more.

I have a 2000 TD5 auto and had the same desire - more power/torque however my ECU wasn't the correct one to have it remapped.
About a month ago I exchanged the ECU for a performance unit from Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide. The swap in/out took 10 minutes.
Pre-change, 0-100kph was ~24seconds with AC off. Post change it was ~17 seconds with AC on (forgot to turn it off).
The Landy is completely different vehicle and gets up and goes now. Best $600 Ive spent.

X2 for trs chip , vast improvement , but I think biggun may just want someone to tell him generic plug in unit is OK , apparently his d2 is about to die anyway.

The plug in options available are simply a box that keeps open the injectors for a few micro seconds more than the ecu would.
Whilst it does work to an extent. It's not the right way to do things. Just fiddling the injector timing is only the very end piece of a very complex fuelling calculation.
A proper and full remap actually adusts most of the parameters to take into account numerous new scenarios that are now thrown into that equation - raised boost pressures and air flow just to mention 2.
It's up to you at the end of the day although I will say this: Buy Cheap. Buy Twice!

You haven't priced the plug-in options then. 😲 Buy expensive. 😲 Pay twice.

No I haven't priced them to be honest as they're a bodge. I have had people bring them to me for repair before now. The first one I did repair, more out of curiosity than anything else because I wanted to plug it in and see what it did on the bench rig, hence the reply above about the injector timings. The rest that turned up I tell them to put them in the bin or send them back to the supplier.
These days you can get a good 2nd hand NNN reflashable ecu and a proper remap for reasonable money.

Over $1200 when I priced them some 4 years ago. Went with an ECU remap and haven't regretted it.
