It's not a major problem and I have gotten into the habit of hitting the button again as I get into car but thought I would ask anyway out of curiosity.
as for the key I am assuming it is a landy one as it looks exactly like the old one right down to the landrover logo on the unlock button and the same valeo and ce0165something on the back and got it from a landrover agent
Might be a Freelander key then which works like the R75 one
Is it a key blade fitted to the FOB or just a ket and the FOB hangs? If it's hanging, then yes, it's not close enough to the coil. Either press the button or lift it up next to the key for a couple of seconds. You'll see the alarm/immob light go out.
Yeah it's the blade fitted to the fob. ive rung the place I got it from to see if they got sent a wrong one by mistake (eg freelander) so he is going to chase it up with supplier because as he said he has n't had a problem before , just program and off they go.
Old key can leave in ignition all day and red alarm light stays off, new key after a little while red alarm light comes on.
I would just keep using old key and keep new for spare but I have noticed that when using new key in the last week once I have had flashing m&s lights with flashing D symbol come on. turn car off restart and still on so turn car off and restart with old key and they go away and car works fine.
another time unlocked the car with new key tried to start it and just wound over and wouldn't fire so tried the usual press unlock button and start again still wouldn't fire so got out of car, locked it and unlocked it, got in turned key and it fired straight away-----
none of these problems with old key so am guessing Sierra fey is right that it may be a freelander key.
waiting to here what supplier says but at least now I have the ekr code which I didn't have before
Externally they look the same, take off it's cover, if it has that transponder highlighted in the pic or it looks like it was there and removed it's not D2 key, in the D2 fob there's no such thing, no need for it

both have the transponder holder but the old key has an extra chip inside that the new key doesn't

Yes, now it's clear, that new key is definitely not a D2 one, i't's some rover or freelander board with a new shell, that's the internal differeence cos the D2 needs that chip to work with the passive remobilisation exciter coil... i was dumb enough myself to not take a pic from one of my keys to show you that from the beginning :)
thanks for that I just emailed the photo to where I bought it and just noticed there is another little black chip just above the one I circled as well that isn't in new one.
