    Tweaked diesel or diesel/gas

Right, so I bought a Disco SII, it was everything I wanted, diesel & gas plus the right other bits.

    Oooppss.

    Herein starts the fairy tale.

Once upon a time someone owned a TD5 Land Rover Discovery SII, they had the computer tweaked to give great performance, then they had gas fitted to give great economy.

That's where the Oooppss comes in, you can't have your cake and eat it too! All you can do is seriously over fuel the engine.

I have only recently been able to put all this together, so where to now? Gee I seem to ask a lot of questions on this forum don't I.

First I would like to try a standard computer but if I have read correctly the car only reads one (the correct one) computer, this means someone setting up my car with a std computer for me to try and get the gas settings right then decide if that is the way to go.

If I think modified computer was the right thing I then need the (my) original computer resetting back in my car.

My fuel economy on straight diesel is around 26 MPG (sorry, I'm an old fart).

Any ideas, I don't want to have to get rid of my tweaked computer straight up, but if the gas system gives me what I want, better economy and power when I want it, I will go that way.

If the tweaked computer wins out I'll have a complete gas system to get rid of.

Argh, fairy tales, hope this one has a happy ending!

    Cheers readers

    Mike

I'll leave those more knowledgeable about diesel gas to comment but 26mpg is pretty standard mileage for a Td5.

Lose the gas and just get the diesel working right.

You get elevated cylinder temperatures with the gas which can lead to very bad things.

I recently visited the research group in Australia who have done more diesel plus lpg fuelling research than anyone else.

Their conclusions are that lpg makes BSFC a lot worse, while some emissions go down a bit and others up a bit. Overall it is only subsidies that make it seem like an economical option.
