TD5 Automatic stuck in first gear. Works fine when warm?

Hi all, I have an issue with the automatic trans on our 2001 disco.
It holds first gear until 3800-4000kms, before changing briefly to second then into 3rd.

A couple of times it has taken off in second.

Just started happening in the last week and goes back to working perfectly after warning up the trans by driving around a little.

Trans Oil and filter were changed around 40,000 kms ago and never skipped a beat until now.
    No leaks around transmission
    Stall converter works fine.
Resetting adaptive values via nanocom had me thinking we have fixed it but it must have just got up to the correct temp and started working fine so a false win. Went back to the same issue the next morning.

Hoping a fellow member might be familiar with this issue and reply with some tips.

I'm trying the basics and changing the trans filter and oil this Friday. Is there anything else worth trying?

    Cheers

On a 4HP22 with manual control this would be the governor sticking from dross in the oil.

In a TD5 this is controlled by the ECU, so my first thought would be a solenoid sticking.

Have you tried starting by placing it in 1 with the selector , then 2 when you want to change gear?

This is what you do in a non electronic 4HP22 to see if the governor is sticking.

If there are no faults recorded it is most likely to be a mechanical problem or electro mechanical IMHO.

Thanks Philip, i forgot to mention there are no faults displayed on the nanocom.
Also, additional info that might help, the dash lcd displays the correct gear when manually selecting 1-2-3-D

I'll try the manual gear select to tomorrow.

Manually selecting first then upshifting to second did nothing. It also took off in second instead of first for the first few start stops.

Again, once warmed up she works perfect.

I think you are to the "take to expert" stage.
It still sounds like a failed solenoid to me, but an expert can test them and to do so will take the sump off and you will see what is in there.
