I did consider this location as well but will not be going down that route. My compressor bracket it bent up from hitting rocks or sticks. So its a fairly exposed location for a battery.
Hi all. I have a 99 td5 disco 2. I was looking under the passenger side door and noticed what appears to be a battery cradle. Is this a viable place for a second battery? Has anyone used this for one.. I have checked online and typically 2nd batteries are mounted in the void in the passenger side of the engine bay near the firewall. Any info would be great. Thanks

Dual Battery Tray Land Rover Discovery 2 Dual Optima D34 TD5 OR V8 | eBay
I've got a battery in my SLS tray and it's been fine.
Been there a few years (Dead now but getting replaced when I find the right size)
I would maybe have put a shield on it to stop it getting whacked by rocks? and you'll need some thick cable to strop voltage drop.
Obviously you need a Gel batt because it'll be on its' side.
I have a cradle under the bonnet too but the battery keeps getting cooked, even with a heat shield. And it's a V8.

I just bought Carl's dual D34 mount as well. I haven't installed it yet, but it is beautifully made and will tidy up a corner of the engine bay that I haven't been happy with. Moving the jack to somewhere in the cabin appeals.
