Results after intercooler clean and re tighten hoses.

Well pulled the td5 radiator and intercooler out today.
Bloody thing had so many bolts, brackets.
I have a issue with blow back (probably rings).
I flush and cleaned out both Rad and cooler.
Bolted it back up. And im impressed with the td5.
Before it with limp until 2200 rpm.
Now power from take off then bang the turbo comes on line.
Reminds me of the old Saabs...
Now to look at the blow bye........

    Great news!
I have a similar problem that I have been chasing for a few years now.

Intermittently, not every time, but seems more prevalent when hot, the old girl limps as you say to about 2200 rpm then bam, all the power in the world!

I actually over the last few years replaced the IC with a larger D2 core, cleaned the inlet manifold, removed EGR and replaced MAF. I was chuffed for about 4-5 weeks when the power was there immediately every time.
    Then the problem came back!

I am beginning to think that it's something else...maybe trans control unit.

I will also try and flush the IC again whilst still in the car.

Anyway great news that you solved your problem...I am amazed just how much performance degrades when the IC gets a bit of oil in it.

    Cheers
    Ralph

How loose were your intercooler hoses? Only reason I ask, I also has a blow by issue and have since pulled my engine to bits. Turns out cylinders 1 and 5 are worn badly possibly due to dust apparently. My head is also not in great shape either due to the dust.

I just thought it might be worth mentioning.

    Mine where thight.
    How they determine dust?

Not to worried about a rebuilt.
My td5 cost me 500.00 with rego.. lol
Got to love the bang for you buck Rovers give you.
Plus being a rover I have taken it places I have not taken my other well marketed big 4wd.
I cant get over how well balanced these things are.
It feels like your floated over the tracks.
Not bull dozing your way thru the bloody tracks..

Have a look around the web as there is a post of a guy who cleans his intercooler in place with a cut mountain bike tube...

A Provent should help with this problem. They catch a lot of oil, which would otherwise be condensing in your I/C.
