You are never too old to go down the silly power path....woops, I mean the Td5 is never too high in km's to benefit from a remap. (-:

The motor needs 100,000 km to run in properly and has an expected life of well over 500,000 kms if serviced when due. In stock form it is well under powered, which is what makes it so reliable.

I added a tuning box (crude form of injecting more fuel) at around 250,000 kms long before a remap became much more affordable and easier to achieve thanks to people like Jose at Td5Inside. The tuning box improved the stock 0-100 time of over 17-18 secs to around 13-14 secs. At around 400,000 kms I upgraded the intercooler and cranked up the tuning box to its max settings. Now does 0-100 in around 11-12 secs. Now at 480,000 kms and yes the manual gearbox needs replacing, the front drive shaft is starting to fail, and it has other unrelated problems, but nothing you would not expect from a 13 year old car approaching the end of it's half life!

And this is all with the original head and turbo as well. There is nothing that has needed replacing on my car that is any different to those running stock motors.

Holding off getting a remap from Td5Inside until I sort the driveline issues out as the pursuit for silly power continues.

Don't waste your time with a rechip if you have or can get a NNN ECU as a remap will allow you to optimise the set up to suit what you want.

And anyone who tells you it will only result in clouds of black smoke - this is rubbish as well, my modified Td5 puts out less smoke under full power than a stock tuned TdV6, so imagine what sort of remap LR did to make the TdV6 perform as it does and my Td5 D2 is quicker than my D3....for now that is..... Is this what others think??
And he wanted $1,340 to do it?
I was hoping to get my td5 manual disco remapped.. But it has 250,000kms. It has a new turbo and head.
    What do ppl think?

I have made 3 maps for mine and the first went in at 145,000 we now have 190,000 the last map is what we are happy with and have done 20,000 with it and not 1 issue.

I can't speak highly enough of TD5inside. I have 3 or 4 different maps as Jose sent me one to start with then modified them as I asked for certain changes. These differnt maps weren't requested straight away either. I had the first map and drove around with it for several week but then I found my fuel usage was a bit high. I just let Jose know and he sent me a new map to try.

The only problem you might have is you will need to by a Nanocom or equivilent or borrow one to upload your tunes.

I also think Jose is pretty cheap by comparison.

    Happy Days.

From my experience with dealing with Jose, I doubt it. I have offered to pay him for things that I beleived were above and beyond what I have paid for but he wouldn't accept my money. I thought it normal for him to make a change or 2 to my maps but I didn't get my boost guage for several months after I got my first tune. When I increased my boost and wanted a tune to suit, he provided it no charge.

    Happy Days.

While we are on the subject of praise to Jose , I have installed a few chips/remaps from different companies over the years , decided to try one of Jose's , let's say I won't bother with others from now on . That's not to say that others are not worth it, far from it and I also haven't used everyone's , but Jose's map was spot on first time , not sure if this is common knowledge but as far as I know he can send you a chip for msb type ecu,s but you will need someone who knows how to solder properly ( electronics repairer)
    Cheers

Thanks heaps people for all the responses I'll get onto it in the next few weeks. My disco is a 1999 so I think I'll get the chip and get my mate who is an auto elec to solder it into the ecu.

A word of caution after having damaged the circuit board on my ECU removing the chip, luckily I had a spare. I had a fair amount of past experience with electronics and was confident, but still managed to fxxx it up. I would recommend getting a good electronics repairer to do the job, it is fine delicate work.

Damn, I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread.

I have 217ks on my 03 TD5. Is stock with EGR blank, and LPG injection between air cleaner and turbo.

I own a Nanocom but haven't explored its potential.

How do I contact this Jose character?

    Bob
