Thread: Awning brackets

interested to see how your awning holds on this. Ive got an awning laying in my garage i had on my prado. I find them really useful, but clearance in my garage is an issue, so putting a full bar across the roof is not an option for me. I'm about to sell my awning, but seeing this has made me think twice.

It'll still sit at the same height as it did with my roof rack. I had the brackets facing down. It sits right behind my snorkel so it doesn't sit out in the wind and create drag.

I have the same dilemma, going to Frazer soon and though I have to buy some racks, well done great idea, got some steel out in the shed, time to fire up the mig, hope you don't mind me using your fine idea, on a side note how are you going to fix to gutter

30x30 angle, cut down to 20mm on one side then some hydraulic pipe (8mm bore) welded on.

Finished. All rock solid, including the rear corner.

I started with cutting down 25x25 angle to about 15x25. My cut wasn't exactly straight but once the brackets were cut into short peices, no one would know.







From previous experience. If, like me, you are not a gun welder and tend to burn a few holes, leave the tube longer than needed and then cut it off later. It's close to the ends that it's easiest to burn holes.





I made a small but easily fixed mistake. At first I cut the tube level with the bottom of the angle which left the head of the bolt below the angle like you can see in the rear brackets.



But the front 2, I had to modify and shorten the tube so the bolt head was level with the bottom of the bracket since the doors pass reasonably close to gutter, there wasn't room for the bolt head.



They came up nice and tight. The addition of rubber sheeting on all the meeting surfaces casued the bolts to flex a bit.
