    Won't rev and vibration

My disco is having a new issue.
Was fine yesterday. But this morning it want free rev above 3000rpm. And has a massive vibration at idle. Also has no power. Struggles up hills maxs 4.4psi boost. But mainly 2.9psi. Made for a long drive to and from work.

    No fault lights are on.
The rough idle is almost like the injector loom miss. But last time it did that. there was oil all the way to the ECU. Where as it looked clean.
But I changed it within 3km. As I was my way home from work.

Searching says Fuel pump. As this want allow it to rev over 3000rpm according to search's. And I cant hear it running when I turn the key to ignition. But fuse and relay have power.

The symptoms mentioned where MAF and boost modulator. Well its not them. As boost modulator was bypassed and I forgot to reconnect. And the MAF I unplugged and made no difference.

Anyone want to confirm my fuel pump query before I pull the bugger out.
Also can they be hot wired for testing?

If you turn ign on ( not engine) and can't hear the pump when you're next to the fuel tank, then good chance its either pump, or not getting power to it . symptoms you describe point that way. Sometimes they can be noisey before dying , sometimes not . can't be more specific.

Well I have decided that since I have a spare injector loom. I will throw that in. As its only a 30min job.

And then will start pulling the pump out. Yer didnt get any wierd noises that I could hear from inside. But it was cold, so heater on and radio going. That and worn mud tyres are kind of noisey.

Have you checked fuse F2 in the engine bay? It powers the MAF, wastegate and the EGR system. Any fault codes?

The only thing that points away from the pump as being the cause to the injector loom is the "massive vibration at idle".

Couldn't it also be caused by low fuel pressure from a faulty pump

Usually in my experience with a failing pump and low pressure idle is the only thing that is not effected to a great extent if the engine will run. However that said I would not rule out the pump, but turps is right to change the injector loom first.

I had the exact same issue with my TD5 Defender. Almost like its a cylinder not firing, the whole car shakes on idle and had no power. Funnily enough it would only ever really happen when it got up to operating temp.

After a loom clean out (wasn't all that bad so figured it wasn't that), a fuel pump change, 2 fuel filter changes it turned out to be the wastegate. At operating temp, it would stick open, which would mean you ain't getting any boost and not enough air in the cylinders. I fixed it with WD40, which had I known it was that would have saved me a lot of money and time!! I would check that first, it might be stuck open (not limp mode, as that fixes itself after engine switch off). If you had a dodgy fuel pump, I would bet your boost would be higher than what you have.

I would also check the filter isn't blocked, that would also drop fuel pressure to the injectors.

All good advice ∆∆∆. But wouldn't be too hard to check if fuel pump at least makes a noise. Easy things first

Well loom changed. I feel it idles smoother. Not perfect.
But a tip for beginners. If you lower tyre pressures to make access easier. You must realise the corner or the bonnet is now quite low for a 6ft tall person. And it also reminds you that cuts to the head bleed and hurt.

Still want rev. And want rev when cold of hot. So not wastegate. Also that shouldn't effect free revving. When in N.

Luckily it appears it's not the first pump. So after I unstuck the foam from the body. I have gotten the carpet up.
Tried hot wiring the fuel pump and get nothing. Not even a hint of noise from it. So guessing completely fried.
And vacuum caused by the injector pumps is all that's drawing the fuel thru.
