    Td5 rf receiver questions

I want to replace the fob receiver on my 2000 Td5. Have read lots of post but just want to check a couple of things to avoid creating avoidable problems:
    • can I simple plug in the new rf receiver without reprogramming anything or does the receiver need to be synched to the fobs/BCU?
    • does the rf receiver need to be earthed? The existing receiver has an earth wire but is not connected to anything, and looks like it never has been. Photo attached.
    • are rf receivers for D2's all the same or are there different models - eg using different frequencies or other differences? The label on mine says 433Mhz (photo).
    • Anything else I should be aware of? I think my project is a simple matter but have read lots of horror stories in the threads and don't want to create more problems than I'm fixing. Hence these precautionary questions.
    A bit more info.
    • The problem is that the fob doesn't work when the car has been left overnight. This is all I am trying to fix. Have read that rf receiver replacement sometimes works.
    • The rf receiver and surrounds are dry and dust free (no sunroof, so no sunroof leak issues)
    • All 3 fobs work fine once the door is unlocked via the key - ie no problem with fobs
    • The car starts using the key alone, whether locked with the key or the fob. No alarms go off if using the key alone. So all is fine other than the car not responding to the fob when left overnight.
Thanks in anticipation. A quick reply as to whether or not it is a simple swap out is all I need. Thanks.

Yes if the RF receiver is the problem it is plug and play. The earth is not connected.

As long as they are both 433Mhz , it is plug and play.

When I bought my car the remotes were not working.

I replaced the microswitch in one and fitted new casings. I bought a wideband tester from the USA on ebay which lights up with an RF signal next to it. That confirmed that the remotes were actually sending.

I then bought a second hand receiver from Bundalene and just swapped them over and voila!, remote locking again.

PS , if you just remove the LH back door rubber and a couple of other fittings , you can pull the headlining down and reach in with difficulty and replace it.
PPS You post was an unusually good one in describing the problem. Should be more of it!

Brad, PM sent so respond if interested.

I just dug it out and replaced the battery.

It beeps when it gets a signal when you hold the remote near the antenna and press lock or unlock, while simultaneously holding the power button of the tester down.
I remember the alternative was $120 + to get some guru to test.

About the original issue, IMO the receiver will not sort it, the internal sleep mode timer in the BCU is the problem, it "goes to sleep" too fast and the key in the lock wakes it, it happens for non NAS specs too i've seen it...unfortunately only replaceing the BCU will help, read 433 instead of 315, the rest is the same: [ame]http://landroverclubvi.weebly.com/uploads/2/3/9/8/2398536/bcu_sleep-mode_troubleshooting_and_upgrade_8601nasf_2.pdf[/ame]

    Brad,
I have found the Ebay reference to the RF remote tester.
Wireless RF Remote Keyless Entry Control Tester Tool | eBay

Seems easier to buy one than rig up a Rasberry pie thingo.

    Regards Philip A
