D2 TD5 Auto Shift Lights Issue

    Hi All

I have inherited a 'personality trait' on the D2 that I'd like to fix.
When I first took ownership several weeks ago, it always took a couple of attempts to get the red light to come on when shifting to 'P' (park) position. Now the issue has worsened and I can't get the light on in 'P' position at all, so I have to shift to 'N' to start the car now.
It is more of an irritation than anything but would appreciate any pointers to assist in fixing.

As an aside (but may be relevant!) I recently took out the centre console and removed the tunnel plate so I could have a look at what would be involved in fitting a CDL actuator. Since that time, I have been unable to get the 'P' light to come on. Wondering if I've done something to the linkage between the transmission and shifter.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated!

Possibly Check the adjustment is correct on the XYZ switch on the Trans.
( inhibitor switch) if out of adjustment it can cause the Park problem.

Coins can also make their way under the cover & stop the lever going all the way into Park.

Funnily enough I collected over 5 bucks in loose change when I took out the centre console (as well as fingernail clippings - ew! - and various other bits and bobs from 14 years & 300,000kms of previous owners adventures!).

Another vote for the XYZ switch. In addition to the alignment it could also be the switch failing.

Other things to check include that the connector where the switch plugs into the wiring harness is clean and also for wear in the wiring harness where it crosses over the back of the transmission.

In my case last year I lost N and D lights due to combination of a faulty switch and a poor electrical contact elsewhere in the system.

    Cheers

    Steve
