    new discovery 2 td5

hi everybody i have just purchased my first 4wd a 2000 disco 2 td5 and its quite clean. it has 160000km on the clock and i paid $8400. What are your thoughts on this? let me know me and my friends seem to think i got a good deal

    Problems

the srs light come on every now and then but i wiggle the wires under the chair it goes away.

when i drive up my driveway which is short and steep it makes a slipping/grinding type noise from under my feet any ideas what this is?

and finally the glow plug light on the dash doesn't work but the car starts very easily first try. (it gets to about 0 degrees c overnight and early morning)

other than that i am pretty stoked on it

You are spinning a front wheel and the traction control pump is activating and braking the spinning wheel..

I have never seen my glow plug light! Don't worry as long as it starts. The TD5 ECU controls the Glow plugs and only turns on when needed, and the car is probably not 0 degrees under the bonnet.

Sounds like a good buy, but you should check all the known weak points especially the front drive shaft and the oil pump bolt as these are the ones that can do the most damage.

This one is a bit of a curiosity! Just which wires are you 'jiggling under the chair'?

The SRS light is to do with your airbags and it is absolutely imperative that this system operate properly in an accident. Faulty wiring etc may also trigger an airbag when you don't want it.... ie.... you're happily driving along at 110kmh and BOOM.... you're blind!

Get it checked ASAP would be my suggestion.

There is a well known problem with the connector on the yellow wire to the seat belt pretensioners that causes the SRS light to come on.

That's because the TC kicks in and stops it before you feel it slipping... watch the instrument pack when you feel that 'symptom' maybe you'll see the TC warning flickering though for very short actions it used to rest

Ok thanks mate will sus it out next time I come up the driveway. Also the driveway is loose gravel and there is a decent pot hole just about where it makes the noise as I drive over..

Bouncing over kerbs and potholes is enough for the traction control to kick in.

Don't forget to check your Injector wiring plug/loom. The Injector loom can/will fill with oil. (as it lives under the rocker cover)
The oil will eventually make its way along the loom to the ECU (located behind Battery) and can cause all sorts of nasty issues.
There is plenty of useful info on this site regarding it.
