    TD5 harmonic balancer TV broke off.

    Had a moment this afternoon.

    My D2 sorted making a horrible noise at times on the way to an appointment and I feared that I had a front tailshaft uni letting go.

    After the appointment climbed under the Disco and checked the uni's , no movement in the rear tailshaft and a very small amount in the front. Not enough to cause the noise.

    Fired her up and instant racket, switched off immediately and had a good look in the engine bay. I could see what appeared to be a pulley siting loose.

    As you can see the fingers broke holding the TV dampener. Looks like two had been cracked for quite awhile.

    No other damage and I was able to drive home. Consider myself very lucky as it could have taken out the fan and radiator.

    Can I continue to drive the vehicle without the TV attached in the interim whilst I am gathering parts, I do have another car to get around in.

    Is the Ross Toughbond HB the way to go? Also what else should I look at "maintaining" whilst I am in there. I'll put in a new crank oil seal whilst the harmonic balancer is out. Had a good read of the discovery 2co write up and it looks good not having to pull the hole front end apart.

    Don't throw it away. It must be made of solid gold to make it cost as much as it does.

    On the plus side, the car must have been running very roughly so it will feel like you are driving a new vehicle when its fixed.

    Come to think of it, you could probably pay the first month's lease on a new vehicle for what the harmonic balancer will cost.

    Driving with it broken is not a good idea, more damage could result. Yes a new 1 is exxy, but weighed against the kms and years, is it all that bad? I thi k the Ross is the 1 to use. Some one else may know more. Yep it may be a months repayment on a new car, but then there is the month after and after......

    Shop around, the prices vary quite a bit at times.

    and yes, lasting 10 - 14 years isnt a bad service life really.

    I see no reason not to try this (unless I am really missing something), in fact price look bloody good, even adding what say $100 on for freight, its still better than half the cost.

    You enter at your own risk Many have tried the cheapies i have heard only to come off worse off in a shorter period of time and ks.
    There are some well know after market suppliers in the uk that have tried to peddle junk with out much luck
