We have had success using Bosch ( German Made) regulator part no: 0280160575 which can be supplied from several suppliers on US ebay for about US$40 and sourcing top quality o'rings from CBC Bearing Co. in Adelaide
Better life than genuine LR unit
Transtar
This rings a bell, as I have my manifold off right now to replace that fuel pipe.
2 weeks ago is was off because the front end of the pipe had loosened and was leaking. Removing the manifold was the only way to get sufficient access to that front nut. Naturally, after reassembling everything, the 'flexible' (not) section of the pipe sprang a leak and here we go again.
From reading this post it looks like a pre-emptive rebuild of the regulator would be in order, while the manifold is off - any comments? (I'm at 125,000ks).
Woo-Hoo, Same day service from H.I.S. Hose, $40 and nice quality flexible hose too.
(I'll be going back with my transmission cooler pipes and a few other items).
Not meaning to Hi-Jack the thread, as I'm still keen on answers to the OP's question.
I have just put one of those kits through my d2a as the regulator itself was leaking, the compete unit had been changed sometime previous to my purchase as the whole thing was nice and shiny new. the reg kit off eBay has green Orings, and was shipped from Spain. Probly same junk tho.
If it lasts 12 months in happy with that, I tried sourcing one of those Bosch regs but couldn't find a reliable supplier anywhere.
Turbosmart do this little mofo, which goes In place of the failed Bosch style reg, and let's u run and external regulator like a Malpassi or turbosmarts own offering.
Might be something to look into if the OEM style ones are going to keep going kaput. Bit dearer, but less headaches.

I've just ordered a genuine Bosch unit from eBay USA:
Bosch Fuel Pressure Regulator 078133534C Audi A4 A6 Golf Jetta Passat 0280160575 | eBay
for $53 delivered.
(I've been able to confirm that the one from Spain is sourced from China)
It'll take a week to get here and I'll be fitting it with the o-rings that it comes with.
If it dies (or doesn't turn up), I'll post an update.
Showing my ignorance I know, but how/where would the Bosch reg. be fitted. I assume they are fixed/bolted in the area of the failed one but shape and design wise they appear quite different. My reg. is leak free but its the 2nd one @ 170ks so those drips on the floor will be back.
