    Horn going off by itself

Ok , its 11.30 , I am asleep and out of the blue i hear my 01 horn going continuously ... not the usual repeating honking from the alarm , but continuously going ... ?
Tried to lock , un lock ect ect ... nothing just bloody one constant roar !
I start the thing and it still sort of keeps beeping at random ?
I thump the steering wheel out of half asleep frustration and it stops ?

I then got under the bonnet and disconnected it .

    gee wiz ... its possessed

any clues would be appreciated ...

btw - only thing done a few days ago was an alternator swap out for a new one..?

Hi, it seems that a horn switch is sticking, quite common, but untill you fix it and it happens again to be simpler for you remove the relay(R13 engine bay fusebox)
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Thanks for the reply mate ..
I did disconnect it in the dark half asleep last night , but yer , prolly pulling the relay would be better I agree ...

My M and S lights are causing issues flashing as well as the horn being possessed and all immediately after I swapper the alternator out ..

Think I need to read a few alternator posts too ... ?

When I swapped the Alternator out , I put a 130 amp in her , bigger than the 120 that was in her .. any chance that would have set all my issues up .. S and M and the horn thing ?

Everything was fine till the change over alternator went in and the SM lights thing happened near immediately afterwards ..?

If you disconnected the horn under the bonnet this is the alarm horn the main horns are mounted behind the grille

x 2 I've seen it a couple of times - the horn button is stuck partly depressed after it has been used - then as the air cools overnight the button moves and makes contact - both times it happened on my D2 was around 2am.

X3 Warmer days and colder nights make the horn button dislodge!

X4 When I bought Charlie, I got home and the horn started going non stop. Eventually I found one button held in with Blutack, which had stuck. So a phone call to the dealer who had to replace them under the statutory warranty.

Great way to introduce a new car to the neighbors

    Cheers

haha , I get that ! , my neighbors got a right old awakening too at midnight lolol

To be honest after much investigation , I don't think mine is going off because of being stuck , it is something weird electrical going on? ... and I think it is something to do with the same sensor that sets the alarm off and then resets its self after 30 min ..
It has no repeated that again as yet .. so I am not sure ...

    bloody annoying though !!!

I am going to post up to ask about the possible electrical issues that may be related ...

    its got me stumped

Not on a LR but I have had a horn go off due to a battery getting low in volts. It seemed to be a warning from the car it was on its way out.

    Thanks mate ...
I must have checked my battery voltage 20 times over the last week and every time , even after she stops and leaves me stranded for 30 dam minutes on the side of the road , all is ok as far as holding charge and running charge ...
I even carry my multi meter around with me these days ! lolol

but hey , the charge and battery seem quite ok ...

    thanks anyway hey
