TD5 vibration, maybe fuel, maybe balancer. I need some faith restored. I need...

I've got a vibration that feels like it's running on 4.5 cyls Joel. It gets better with warmth, and also above 3000 rpm. I put it down to leaking fuel reg, but have recently repaired and it's still there.
The engine is also noticeably harsh/vibratey when shutting down, like that shudder u get with an early diesel hilux.

U reckon ur symptoms are similar?

Yep that's about what I have. The vibration is pretty bad when it's doing it. One of my neighbors is a Diesel Mech and he came over this morning to have a listen but it started fine with no vibration. It worries me enough that I don't trust it to go too far from town until I work out what's causing it.

    Happy Days.

Yeh mate. It was obvious to me but maybe not to others.

What it common sense? What is common to one may not be to another. Reminds me of when my Japanese wife was cold so she sat closer to the fire place. It was common sense to me she was sitting to close but I hadn't noticed to tell her until there was smoke pouring of the back of the wooden chair. In the area she lived in Japan they had no wood fires, only these kerosene heaters that somehow burn the kero internally and blow out warm air. Fire being that hot just wasn't common to her.

    Happy Days.

Is yours a manual, or auto?

If manual could it be the dual mass flywheel?

    It's an Auto, Kelvo.

I'm starting to take things apart today so I won't be able to test things for a while.

I'm taking the intake manifold of to do the Fuel Pressure Regulator this time.

    Happy Days.

    Nah mate,

I have started to take it apart. I took the intercooler pipes off to check if they had started to delaminate on the inside and cause my lack of boost but they were fine.

I found the vacuum nipple broken of the boost modulator so I'm putting that down for the cause of the lack of boost but I won't know until I get it back together.

I've ordered a intake manifold gasket so I can take off the intake manifold and get proper access to the fuel pressure regulator. I know it can be done without removing the intake manifold but I want to do it properly and it's not easy as is.

I have spoken to QFM for new brake pads and I can save a couple of dollars by sending them my old brake pads for them to machine off the old stuff and apply new brake pad material to my old backing plates. I will have them off and in the post tomorrow so I wont have brakes for a while.

I'm waiting on Rapid RS to give me a price on new slotted rotors.

I have been looking at Fuel Pressure Regulator repair kits. I replaced the gasket and "O" rings before the trip but I have now read it is more possible for it to be leaking from the regulator itself not the housing.

And to top it off, I'm looking for either a new torque wrench or get mine calibrated. I just don't trust the one I have and I don't want to stuff up the FRP again as it's such a difficult thing to get to.

    Happy Days

Mine was leaking from the reg itself, coming out through the little hole.

If mine leaks again (which I have been told the cheap eBay regs will) I'll be seriously looking at a turbosmart reg adaptor, and either a turbosmart or Malpassi external reg.

Have you checked for oil in the ECU? I had huge vibrations that I couldn't find.
Turned out to be oil through the loom.
    Cheers
