Thanks bee utey! I have a new/sealed D2 Td5 fuel pump in the garage ... I need to pull it apart and have a look see ... but if what you say is right, then as long as the pump motor is running submerged (in the swirl pot), there's sufficient cooling, and the fuel level in the tank doesn't matter.Quote:

That 2 Stage intank pump just seems to be an overly complex troublesome thing, with VERY little info avail on it.
Where the fuel filter screws on that inline fitting there is a non return valve, make sure that's not sticking as I have been informed it can cause cavitation. There is an air bleed kit avail part number WJN500110

just some added info..
*The noise (gurgling whine sound) is normal when the pump is purging air back to the tank.
*Change the fuel filter and dont over tighten the filter on a TD5, just firm is enough, over tightening will cause some brand filters to leak.
*Do the auto prime once you have changed the filter, ignition on, 5 pumps on the throttle, engine light will flash until its purged.
*Once running, take it for a drive, if it battles to pull over that 3000rpm, then yes it may be a dieing pump.

P.S if replacing the complete pump assembly dont be tempted to buy a cheap one, they dont last long and often burn out. The OEM is a VDO
Just did a little diagnosing, tested fuel pressure, nice strong 60psi at the fuel reg.
Put it through it's prime cycle, still noisy.
Pulled fuel filter and removed the air bleed to tank line, connected a bit of tube and into a bucket, new filter, run fuel prime sequence.
Nothing coming out of the fuel/air separator doo-dad - hmmm, that's strange.
Removed it from the filter housing and pulled out the little membrane screen thingy and left it out, repeat procedure, fuel freely flowing from that port, along with bulk air.
Seems that air bleed wing-wang is the culprit.
Question, if the system was previously bled, with nil air in system, why all of a sudden does it have air in there???
Hmmmm, perhaps there is underlying issues, however will approach them as they "develop" hahaha.
Off to get an air bleed thingy!

Lucas 60 sold with 3 warranties, so much a muchness, if you do the math , yet Lucas is quite a bit cheaper.
Intermotor 3 sold 2 warranties made in China.
Big name parts are now not being made in their original country, the whole manufacturing game has changed. A lot are now being made in China.
$100 -$200 TD5 pumps don't even go there.

Yes the Lucas' are quite a bit cheaper, it's interesting to note that island4x4 in the UK sell the Lucas pump and stipulate *no warranty provided* essentially use at your own risk!

As far as buying from overseas you risk having to pay the expensive postage costs back to the seller so they can inspect the part and to claim any warranties. It's a long wait if your off the road waiting for a replacement
