just some added info..
*The noise (gurgling whine sound) is normal when the pump is purging air back to the tank.
*Change the fuel filter and dont over tighten the filter on a TD5, just firm is enough, over tightening will cause some brand filters to leak.
*Do the auto prime once you have changed the filter, ignition on, 5 pumps on the throttle, engine light will flash until its purged.
*Once running, take it for a drive, if it battles to pull over that 3000rpm, then yes it may be a dieing pump.

P.S if replacing the complete pump assembly dont be tempted to buy a cheap one, they dont last long and often burn out. The OEM is a VDO
