I wonder how many still run the original tyres? I think they came in a few different specs, 235/70/16, 255/55/18 and a couple more maybe. So many now run different sizes and I doubt their would be many to still run whatever brand and model they came with.

And I'm sure they knew a thing or too and they stuffed up a fair amount along the way too. Open the lid on the air cleaner on a TD5. Oh wait the radiator hose is in the way. Oh, it doesn't seal properly. That's just one of the top of my head.

Tyre model or brand doesn't matter - it's the pressure that counts. Many of us run stock sizes or only slightly bigger so stock pressure is perfect. I run placarded pressures because after doing the 4psi test, stock pressures are spot on. Each time I change the load (passengers, luggage etc) for anything more than a short trip, I adjust the pressures. I also religiously rotate tyres every 10k and have them balanced every 30k or so.

A 10 ply will generate a heap more heat than a 6 ply. Therefore they need more pressure to maintain the 4psi rule.

That's why 6 ply tyres are often 50psi max for max load but 10 ply are usually 80psi max for max load.

For example I run the BFG KM2 Tyres. In 235/70/16 they are C rated or 6 Ply. In that size they have a max load of 1985@50. In 245/75/16 they are E rated or 10 Ply. In this size, they have a max load of 3042@80.

Same brand, same model, completely different tyre that will require different pressures.

It's the stalwart of miners, pastoralists and those who live and work in harsh desert and rocky country in the north. Heavy duty, excellent AT tread pattern and on road it's smooth and quieter than a mud tyre. I've been using these for 15 years and it would be difficult to sway me. Regularly see 60,000+km out of them. These are of my current tyres, done 20,000km of mixed long highway and desert / rocky / sandy / corrugated roads and tread is still virtually as new.
Can I ask how their price is compared with other tyres?

I agree with Joel. I have run stock XPC's and many other tyre type on 2 discoveries. The 80psi max LT's especially in 31 inch require more air than a stock passenger rated 29.5 in tyre. You only have to look at a 31 LT with placard psi in them to see they are dodgy - look like you have bagged them out for soft sand work!

    Question

There seems to be quite a few A/T tyres coming out these days that also have the Side-Biters on the sidewalls.... I'm wondering if they are any more noisier than ones without the side-biters?

With the Desert Duellers 661's, has there been any times where the sidewall biters would have come in handy at all?

As far as push my tyres hard.. Ask around here I'm not gentle or slow...

Those chunks missing are very indicative of US made rubber, tears will be worse from stones flung from the front.
Tombie for the 674 are there US made versions and versions made elsewhere?
